The Kremstal, part of the wine region 'Niederösterreich', is located ca. 80 km west of Vienna and cradles the River Danube north and south. The name comes from the River and Town called Krems, other villages famous for this area are Göttweig, Furth, Rohrendorf and Senftenberg. It covers the area from Stein to Gedersdorf and Senftenberg to Krustetten, a total area of over 2100 ha of wine growing.
The vineyards of the Kremstal are located on both sides of the Danube, along the valley of the River Krems and up onto plateaus and hillsides. Soil is predominantly loam and loess, in the lower flat areas also sandy and gravel soil. Two climate zones meet over the Kremstal, the dry, warm pannonian air from the east and thehumid, more cold and rougher air from the 'Waldviertel', resulting in marked temperature differences between day and night. This is ideal for producing aroma in grapes.
This classical white wine region is known for the grapes of Grüner Veltiner and Riesling. Over 70 % of the region is planted with the 2 grape varieties.
