The Estate Kueferschaenke in the small hamlet of Weiler, part of the city of Sinsheim, is owned in the 4th generation by the Zipse family. Originally a coopers business, it now comprises the Wine Estate, a Country Hotel and Restaurant.
All wines are grown on the site Weilerer Steinsberg, the highest elevation of the Kraichgau region in northern Baden. The Steinsberg (Stone Mountain) is an extinct volcano with heavy basalt soil, which is ideally suited to growing grape varieties like Pinot Noir, Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc and Rulaender. The vineyards around the castle are favoured by the typical hot Baden climate and are rich on nutrients. Owing to the tradition of the coopers business, many wines are still produced in wooden barrels, but also modern stainless steel tanks are in use.
The top of the Steinberg Mountain houses the Stauferburg, built in the 12th century and which has the only octagonal castle tower in Germany.
The Kraichgau, located between Heidelberg in the north and the Black Forest Mountains in the South, is an ideal place for active holidays including walking and cycling, equestrian sports or golf, but also invites city visits to Heidelberg, Bruchsal and Karlsruhe. From here, staying in the comfortable Hotel Kueferschaenke, you can arrange day tours to other wine regions like Alsace, Pfalz or Württemberg or visit the Technical Museums in Sinsheim or Speyer. |
