If you were asked to put the components together for the ideal place to relax, you would invent the Espenhof. Country House Hotel, Restaurant and wine estate, all 3 components of a piece of heaven on earth. Eat, drink and sleep, no consideration of driving home after a great evening. The Espenhof is a family business. An estate with a reputation for good wines, the Landhotel with the ambience of a place in the Toskana and a Restaurant which satisfies even the most hardened critic. Held together by a very personal service under the critical eyes of Heike and Wilfried Espenschied. The Espenhof is a member of the Club Montagné and of Eurotoques, an association of the top Chefs in Europe.
Daughter Lena Marie was the 'Wine Queen' of Flonheim, representing the town and the Espenhof in2002/3. International experience won in trips around Europe, South Africa and America have contributed to her education, she fills now the role of charming hostess to the visitors.
The estate Espenhof produces classical dry wines. White wines dominate the range: dry Riesling, Grüner Silvaner, Weisser and Grauer Burgunder, but also Chardonnay and the desert wine grape Huxelrebe. Elegant red wines, like Spaetburgunder, finished in Barrique, and velvety type Dornfelder round the range of wines produced by Wilfried Espenschied.
The estate is located deep in the region of Rheinhessen, the ideal place to stay for a week to enjoy a range of great golfcources, horse trailing, walking/cycling tours or a ride in a hot air balloon. Daytrips to cities like Frankfurt, Mainz, Worms or Speyer are easily made for shopping, see the many historical sites or visit theatres and museum. |
