There is a proverb in the region which translates to 'God save the Pfalz'. As a wine region and as a landscape, the Pfalz is remarkable. Climat, landscape and wine contribute to what many describe as heaven. Temperatures in summers can reach more than 35 °C, with mild winters. Tropical gardens, figtrees, almonds, citrus fruit and exotic flowers are all proof of an exceptional piece of land, with 1800 hrs of sunshine on average each year.

Placed between The Pfalz mountains in the west, the plains of the river Rhein in the east, it extends in the south right to the french border with its wine region of Alsace. When you travel up from Alsace, you enter the Pfalz through the famous 'Deutsches Wine Tor', German wine gate.

It is Germany's second largest wine region in acreage, but often has the largest crop of all. The word Pfalz is a derivation of the Latin word palatium, meaning palace. The English equivalent, Palatinate, is sometimes used to refer to the Pfalz. Modern technology and viticultural training have made their mark here in the past four decades. With regard to soiltypes, loam is prevalent, often in a mixture with other soil types, such as loess, chalk, clay, colored sandstone or sand. Grape varieties include Riesling, Dornfelder, Müller-Thurgau, Portugieser as well as Kerner, Silvaner, Scheurebe, Spätburgunder, Morio-Muskat, Weissburgunder and a small quantity of the specialty Gewürztraminer.

As excotic as the landscape are the people. The mild climate and the wine have an influence - friendly, sociable, entertaining and very hopitable, but still very honest and down to earth. The list of wine festivals is as long as the river Rhein. Reaching from the 'Weinfest' in Bad Duerkheim in front of the world's largest wine barrel to the little street festivals in the tiny villages. The Pfalz is the ideal place to stay for a holiday. Any outdoor activity from golf to horses, historical sites, city visits, wine festivals or day trips to France, Black Forest Mountains, Heidelberg are possible.
