Weingut Sankt Annagut |
||
The Lergenmueller family, 2 brothers Stefan and Juergen, have made a name for themselves with their exceptionally concentrated, even opulent red wines. Tradition, experience and innovation are the key elements for the quality of the wines.
Estate Lergenmueller now ownes also Sankt Annagut, which is the highest located estate in the Pfalz region, well known for its excellent Riesling wines. Sankt Annagut covers ca. 7,5 ha of vineyard, all steep, hilly and southeast facing, which intensifies the effect of the sun. Due to the high altitude, which causes the nights to be cooler, wines here need a longer ripening period and for this reason these Rieslings have an especially fine fruity character. The estate is located in the nature resort 'Haardrand Pfaelzer Wald', on top of the village of Burrweiler.
The mineral-like fine character of the St. Annaberg wines is supported by the soil of coloured sandstone and slate, which in this combination is nearly unique for the Pfalz region. Riesling is well represented in the range of wines, led by the 'S' (slate selection) The red wine 'Die Terassen', a Cuvée from Spaetburgunder, Heroldrebe and Dornfelder, reflects also the classic elegant, smokey character of the St. Annaberg wines, smouth, elegant but also powerful.
Originally the estate was established as a pilger hut to serve as feeding station to visitors to the chapel St. Annakapelle, situated higher up in the Pfalz mountains. Within its coloured history, it also served as a cantonment for Napoleon's officers. Remaining from this day is the historical taproom. Now a Country Guesthouse, St. Annaberg offers rustical style accomondation for wine buffs and visitors to the nature resort alike. It is the ideal base for tours through the Pfalz mountains, whether on foot, horse back or cycle. |
