The Alentejo belongs to the more southern wine regions of Portugal and is located between the Tangus River in the north and the Algarve in the South. Its name's origin, "além do Tejo", literally translates to "beyond the Tagus".

The Alentejo is huge, with its flat plains covering almost a third of the country. The great success of the Alentejo has been in making thoroughly modern, concentrated wines that still retain a distinctly Portuguese character.

Since the 90ies one recognizes a mood of awakening in the Alentejo region, the 'California' of Portugal. Full-bodied and charming red wines of unknown excellence are grown here.

The Mediterranean climate and the lime-stone soil combine with traditional and modern cultivation and vinification.

Local grape varieties combine with success-fully proved international varieties develop wines of expressive character and quality.
Two distinctive styles are produced: One is the traditional Alentejo style, which displays leathery, herby and sweet-spice complexity. The other style is the modern, fruit dominated, nearly new world style wines.
