The Sattlerhof, located near the small village of Gamlitz, has all the ingredients which makes the difference between just another wine estate and a piece of heaven on earth.

The Estate, one of the leading Styra wineries, has an international reputation for its wines, namely excellent Sauvignon blanc and Morillon (the Austrian name for Chardonnay). Coupled with this and part of the family business is a Country House style hotel with an exquisite Restaurant and leisure facilities including outdoor heated swimming pool and Sauna facilities. The setting is completed with a classical, pub-style ‘Wirtshaus’ to sit down in after a day’s walking tour and enjoy the local wines. The restaurant, under the direction of Chef Hannes Sattler, has for many years been receiving awards from Gault Millau and others, and is one of the leading culinary hotspots in the region.

The Estate is a trendsetter in the region, proven by many awards and prizes for its wines received over time.
Willi and Maria Sattler have recently invested in an underground cellar, deep in the Sernauberg, to set the frame for even more quality improvements. The Sattlerhof, with 30 ha of vineyards including top sites like Sernauberg, Pfarrweingarten and Kranachberg, produces mainly Sauvignon blanc, Muskateller and Morilllon in 2 style directions, classic (traditionally fruity) and terroir (powerful, full-bodied from hand selected grapes).

The special climate of the Südsteiermark enjoys Mediterranean-type hot summers and very cold winters, due to the continental climate. This also is evident in large temperature differences between day and night, which contributes substantially to the built up of aromas in the grapes.
The vineyards are always located in the upper parts of the hills, to make full use of the sunshine hours.
Slate and shale are the key soils. The steep hill sides have been cut by rivers and were flooded by the sea in tertiary times, up to a height of 450 – 500 m sea level. This has left a layer of sand and gravel, partly mixed with shell lime stone. The top layer of the soil is easy penetrated by the root of the vines, but the deeper they find gneiss and mica slate, which gives the wines a strong mineral note.

All wines are pressed from perfect ripened grapes, harvest is always only by hand and takes places over a period of time to ensure careful selection process.
Modern technical plant are coupled with a pecise and quality-orientated wine production, using gentle pressing methods and constant controls in the ripening process.
Willi Sattler has also contributed with a range of innovative steps which enable to bring the special characters of the wine to the fore.
