Weingut Martin Conrad - Brauneberger Hof |
||
Located in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region, this estate has a family history of over 400 years in wine making. The estate is now run by Martin Conrad, 14th generation of the family. He is one of the many young wine makers who have pushed the reputation of German wine production to the top in Europe with a combination of historical knowledge and modern business methods. He has adapted the philosophy of the French system of connecting the quality of the wine with Terroir, site and craftsmanship
Conrad works mostly with Riesling, complimented by some Pinot Blanc. The wines are exclusively grown on the traditional, steep south facing banks of the River Mosel. The soil is slate, producing wines with an unmistakeable flavour. The top sites are Brauneberger Juffer & Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr. From these renowned slate stone vineyards top quality Riesling wines are produced, which are famous throughout Germany. This is done by controlling the plant/grape ratio and a careful vinification process, which brings out the amazingly different fruit flavours associated with the native slaty soil.
The estate favours the traditional vinification process maintaining the natural sweetness to preserve it's incomparable quality. Grapes are cultivated under ecologically friendly conditions leading to a good balance between wine growing, the environment and minimal risk of disease in the process. Hand picking grapes ensures careful selection during harvesting and guarantees high quality, wholesome, distinctive wines based on strict scientific process control and a cooled fermentation stage.
Not only does the Conrad estate have Riesling wines of highest quality, it is also in one of the most beautiful river valleys in Europe, and to complete the temptation to go there and visit, the family runs a small, 4 star hotel with excellent food and ambience. For a few days of heaven where you can rest order to rest, taste good slow food and wine and be spoiled, this is the place to go. You will find old cities like the roman town of Trier, for motor sport enthusiasts the F1 race course of the Nuerburgring is not too far away, and the Mosel river valley invites to a variety of water sports and endless walks. |
