Character:This cuvée of Silvaner and Riesling provides a perfect harmony of fresh Riesling acidity and smooth Silvaner flavours. Fine and rich aromas. The Kallmuth vineyard has survived an unfortunate trend of the last half century, whereby many steep, labor-intensive sites in Germany have been slowly but surely abandoned – despite their high quality potential. It comprises twelve hectares (30 acres), of which eight (20) are productive at this time. The steep slope is completey terraced with dry stone walls that range in height from two to five meters (6.5 – 16.5 ft). The walls are inherent to this cultural landscape and were placed under historical preservation status in 1981. Thanks to its siutation on a bend of the Main River, the Kallmuth site has excellent exposure. Its steep gradient of 80% and its 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) of heat-retaining, natural stone walls lend the original portion of the site all of the advantages of a sub-Mediterranean climate. Even in the coolest summers temperatures can easily reach 50 – 60°C (122 – 140°F). The soils range from shell limestone to red sandstone. The historically protected, terraced site is solely owned by the Princes of Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg. Thanks to its unique climatic and geological makeup, the Kallmuth site is not only the home of inimitable fine wines, but also many different orchids and other subtropical plants, such as the Asphodill lilly. As for the wines: each is unique and unparalleled for its spicy and pronounced aromas of herbs and flintstone, paired with rich, ripe fruit
