The estate Schloss Proschwitz is the oldest and also the largest private estate in the Sachsen wine region. It is owned by Prinz zur Lippe, who up until 1918 were one of the leading royal families in Germany. The family was ousted in 1945, but since 1990 Prinz zur Lippe has started to buy back the estate and castle in steps.

The secret of the success of this estate are the excellent south facing sites, the favourable micro climate of the Elbe river valley and the ideal composition of soil, made up from loess and granite rock. The 6 m deep layer of loess gives the wines a beautiful fruity bouquet, the underlying granite rock gives a long lasting feeling of depth to the wine.

The estate is now housed in an 300 year old square building with a large courtyard in the village of Zandel, not to far away from the baroque chateau Schloss Proschwitz restored to its traditional high standard.

Due to the high quality applied in the wine making, estate Schloss Proschwitz was accepted as early as 1996 to the prestigious VDP as the only estate from the region of Sachsen.
