Gewürztraminer Rosenberg amongst top 6 from 30 blind tasted by Liam Campbell

The thirty-three aromatic dry whites tasted blind included the native Argentinean Torrontés, a relation of the grapey and musky Muscat; Viognier (pronounced “v-o-nee-ay”) originating in southern France and now performing admirably in the southern hemisphere and the always popular Gewürztraminer, akin to liquid Turkish Delight and ginger and arguably best from France’s quaint and quirky Alsace.

Amongst the top 6 selected is the Gewürztraminer Rosenberg from Estate Barmes Buecher.
Gewürztraminer “Rosenberg” 2006, Domaine Barmès Buecher, Alsace, France €24.15 [Vinum-X-Tellus]
A delicate, pretty floral scent of old-fashioned roses. The palate delivers delicious candied rose petals lightly dusted with ginger powder. Elegant and classy hiding the 14% alcohol. Go native with an Alsace classic of Munster cheese dipped in spicy cumin.

Read international press on German wine

Alexander Rocca:
„If you think you know German wine, drink again”
“Of course it will always be possible to find cheap German wine, but there’s a new cornerstone emerging in Germany’s wine production. Producers have succeeded in developing a newer style of drier and more contemporary wines for the British market, with Riesling, as expected, being the front runner.
(Alexander Rocca, Master Vintner Asda Stores, Bournemouth, Daily Echo, 19.03.2007)

Dublin Wine Tasting - Part of the German-Irish Chamber of Industry and Commerce Christmas Luncheon

VINUM-X-TELLUS held its first Dublin Wine tasting as part of the German-Irish Chamber of Industry and Commerce Christmas Luncheon. Attending the luncheon were many leading personalities from Ireland's business, political and commercial life, including the Irish Ambassador to Germany, H.E. David Donoghue and the well known journalist and author John Bowman who was guest speaker at the Luncheon.

A special feature of the event was the personal presentation of wines from the estate Martin Conrad – Brauneberger Hof from the Mosel region by the estate owner himself. Martin is one of the new generation of wine makers using long standing family tradition, experience and modern business techniques to bring German wine to the forefront in Europe. This was the 2nd major event for VINUM-X-TELLUS within the last fortnight, having hosted a very successful wine tasting event as part of the Listowel Food Fair. At this occasion there were also wine makers present to personally introduce their wines and offer the opportunity to meet with them and discuss the wines available at the tasting. Further events will take place throughout Ireland over the coming months – in Kerry the next confirmed event will take place in Killarney in February 2007. Interested wine lovers should contact the Company for details. For the festive season VINUM-X-TELLUS has a spectacular range of red and white wines available. In particular there are white and rosé Sparkling Wines produced according to the champagne method, in brut or extra brut. 2 types are currently on special offer, retailing from 20 Euro per bottle, with others available for just under 30 Euro. You can book your supply in the online shop at www.vinum-x-tellus.ie, send an e-mail to sales@vinum-x-tellus.ie or by telephone at 068 53855
