Neil Ellis - Werner Naekel
	In 1995 Werner Näkel undertook his first trip to South Africa, just over 10 years after having taken over the familiy estate in the Ahr region and made it to one of the leading estates producing red wine in Germany. He was immediately taken by the beauty of the countryside, the multiple faces of the landscape and its potential for wine making. He met the South African enologist Neil Ellis, and the idea of a joint wine venture was born and put into praxis. On the basis of experience and knowledge from both experts, the first wine was produced in 1997 and named ZWALU, the african word for 'new beginning'. For 10 years now this joint venture is successfully producing excellent wines, and currently further expansion with added vineyards and new premises are in progress. Red wines include a Cuvée made from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon and a Shiraz. Currently one white wine is available, a fruity Sauvignon blanc.
