Weingut Erben von Beulwitz |
||
This estate is placed in the valley of the River Ruwer, a tributary to the Mosel. Located in Mertesdorf, near the old roman city of Trier, the estate Erben von Beulwitz has a long tradition and history in producing high quality wines. Already at the world exhibition in 1867, the estate was winning awards for its quality wines, presented at the time by the Royal Central Commission.
The philosophy of producing quality wines is today continued by the current owner and wine maker Herbert Weis. He has won awards and prizes nationally and internationally for his work, latest in 2004 the Medaille D'Argent, Riesling du monde, Strassburg. The estate produces 90 % Riesling, on soil of decomposted slate. Top sites include Kaseler Nies'chen und Kernagel.
The sites are exclusively located in the classically known steep banks of the Ruwer valley. All vineyards face to the south or southwest. At the site Kaseler Nies'chen today still grow over 80 % true rooted Riesling grapes, which partly have been planted before 1900 and are now over 100 years old, mostly on Devon slate. The wines, grown with a lot of labour and traditional methods, have their significance due to power, compactness and enamel, without loosing the typical finesse and fruity acid of the Ruwer Riesling.
The estate is complimented by a 4 star hotel in Mertesdorf, which offers comfort and ambience to enjoy the beautiful region of Ruwer, Saar and Mosel, the old roman city of Trier, and many leisure activities like golf, walking or boating on the rivers. No need to mention to taste the excellent regional and international food and to taste the wines of the estate in the modern vinotheque. |
